19 October - UNA-UK calls for continued inclusion of citizenship in education
In late 2006, UNA-UK was concerned to learn of proposals to drop specific references to the UN from the revised Key Stage 3 citizenship curriculum. UNA-UK urged the government to reverse these plans, holding meetings with Lord Adonis, DfES Minister responsible for citizenship. And in December 2006 plans to remove the UN from the citizenship curriculum were ditched. In 2008, the year the Universal Declaration of Human Rights turned 60, UNA-UK sent every secondary school in the UK its 'UDHR60' human rights teaching handbook.
