'WALK THE WORLD' WITH THE FOOD FOOD PROGRAMME

London: Sunday, 13 May 2007

Half of the 850 million people suffering from hunger are children. Combating child hunger is an imperative in itself. It is also a prerequisite for achieving MDG 1, which calls for halving the proportion of hungry people worldwide by 2015. The UN World Food Programme is teaming up with its partners on 'Walk the World' - a global initiative to raise awareness and vital funds.

'Walk the World' in the UK will stage a landmark event on the banks of the River Thames on Sunday, 13 May, with a walk that begins at 'The Scoop', next to City Hall and takes in some of the major historic sites of the capital city. The 'Walk the World' team aims to make this a fun day out as well as an effective fundraising and awareness raising tool! Last year 750,000 people worldwide participated in the initiative .

Happy walking!
