New UNA-UK Executive Director appointed
UNA-UK is delighted to announce the appointment, from 6 September 2010, of Philip Mulligan as our Executive Director.
Phil brings a wealth of experience to UNA-UK, having worked on issues such as environmental protection, education and sustainable livelihoods, human rights, gender empowerment, maternal and child health, and international development.
He is currently CEO of Environmental Protection UK – a membership and advisory organisation that aims to raise awareness of local environment quality issues – where he developed a new strategic plan, undertook re-branding, and overhauled governance and management systems. Phil also serves as Vice-Chair of Defra’s Civil Society Advisory Board, as a trustee of BTCV, on the Steering Group of the Brighton & Hove 10:10 campaign, and on the Sustainability Committee of a global law firm.

Upon being appointed, Phil said “it’s a real honour to be associated with UNA-UK. This is an organisation with a lot of potential and it will be exciting to take it forward to its next stage of development. I’m also looking forward to meeting UNA-UK’s members and supporters.”
Lord Hannay of Chiswick, Chair of UNA-UK, expressed his pleasure at the appointment, saying “we are delighted to have secured the experience and skills of Philip Mulligan to take over as Executive Director when Sam Daws* stands down in September. Phil’s time as head of VSO in Indonesia and now at Environmental Protection UK should equip him well for the job. Sam will be a hard act to follow, but I am sure Phil will serve UNA-UK well.”
* Sam Daws will be leaving UNA-UK in September 2010 after six years as Executive Director to become a senior research associate at Oxford University, where he will be directing a project on UN governance and reform. |
