LAUNCH OF UNICEF DOCUMENTARY TRIBUTE

23 January 2007: Acclaimed actress and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Vanessa Redgrave has produced a documentary tribute, 'Wake Up World', commemorating 60 years of UNICEF's work for children around the world. The film, which is directed by her son, Carlo Nero, features exclusive interviews with former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan; UNICEF Executive Director Ann Veneman; UNICEF Ambassadors Ralph Fiennes, Angelique Kidjo and Liam Neeson; Stephen Lewis, the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa; and Sir Richard Jolly, former Assistant Secretary-General of the UN and former UNA-UK Chair.

A number of UNA-UK members attended an exclusive screening hosted by Vanessa and UNICEF UK's President Lord Puttnam. The film was introduced by the Rt. Hon. Hilary Benn MP, Secretary of State for International Development, who said: "the contribution that UNICEF has made is like the shining light upon the world, the shining beacon of our human conscience. It is this which motivates many of you to support UNICEF as an organisation".
