INFORMATION ON FRAUDULENT E-MAILS
Scam warning
It has come to our attention that scam e-mails alleging to be from or associated with UNA-UK are in circulation.
These scam e-mails are designed to obtain people's bank account details and money fraudulently. In an attempt to mislead recipients into thinking that their activities are genuine, the criminals behind these scams:
- make unauthorised use of UNA-UK’s postal address (3 Whitehall Court, London SW1A 2EL) on their documents;
- make unauthorised references in their documents to the names of current and former UNA-UK staff or employees;
- use bogus e-mail addresses that appear to originate from UNA-UK; and/or
- use names of fictitious companies or organisations that appear similar to the name of UNA-UK.
Please note that UNA-UK is not the United Nations. We do not act as a consultant or intermediary in securing employment or service contracts with the United Nations or with multi-national corporations. There is no such thing as a ‘UN Anti-Terrorism Certificate’ or a ‘UN Lottery’.
How can I spot a fraud?
The scam e-mails are poorly written and usually ask the recipient to reply to a Yahoo, Hotmail or Gmail e-mail address. They promise bogus cash prizes or unsolicited job offers and ask for personal information such as bank account or passport details.
Amongst others, the following names and e-mail addresses are known to have been used in hoax emails:
Mr Adam Rogers
Mr Edward Jones
Mr David Cox
Rev. Thomas Paul
Capt. J.C. Williams
Rev. Dick Lugar
Rev. Roger Hedges
Mr Ronald Johnson
Dr Benson Cooke
Rev. Mary Martins
