Making waves for action on climate change

On 5 December, UNA-UK, YPN and UNYSA members took part in 'The Wave', the UK's biggest-ever climate change demonstration and marched through central London to encircle the Houses of Parliament.

Organised by the Stop Climate Chaos coalition (of which UNA-UK is a member),  the event saw well over 50,000 people clad in blue from head to toe take to the streets to urge world leaders to seal the deal at the UN summit in Copenhagen.

Recent event: Can we take on the two biggest threats facing the world?

Students from across the country participated in UNYSA's 2009 campaign conference, held on 21 November at the University of Leicester.

The aim of the conference was to inspire debate and ideas on UNYSA's campaign goals 2009-10: action on climate change and nuclear non-proliferation.

Two expert speakers from UNA-UK and Global Action Plan tackled UNYSA's bold question - can we take on the two biggest threats facing the world?

Their presentations highlighted the importance of individuals, as well as government and business, in pushing these issues up the agenda and getting the word out to young people worldwide.

Participants then had the opportunity to hone their campaigning skills in two interactive workshops.

The conference also launched UNYSA's two new campaign packs: STOP THE SPREAD and SEAL THE DEAL!

STOP THE SPREAD campaign is launched internationally

UNYSA President Nick Boucher travelled to South Korea for the triennial conference of the World Federation of UNAs (WFUNA). Nick met with UN youth associations from 24 countries, and drummed up support for STOP THE SPREAD, UNYSA's nuclear disarmament campaign. The campaign was also presented with an award by Dr Hans Blix, former head of the IAEA, the UN's nuclear watchdog.
