95 days to UN Forum - 12 June 2010
Register now for UN Forum 2010, the UK’s largest civil society event on the United Nations.
This one-day conference will explore the theme ‘An effective UN in a more secure and just world’ and will feature presentations by high-level speakers including Dr Hans Blix, head of the IAEA and Dame Margaret Anstee, former UN Under-Secretary-General and the first female head of a UN peacekeeping mission. There will also be a panel discussion on practical ways to make the UN more effective, chaired by BBC presenter Zeinab Badawi, and a session on careers at the UN led by the Deputy Director of the UN Regional Information Centre Janos Tisovszky.
Recent additions to the programme include Sir Nigel Rodley, Dr Abiodun Williams, Kishore Mahbubani, Edward Mortimer, Elizabeth Wilmshurst and Dr Rebecca Johnson.

Offering step-by-step tips on how to organise a hustings, UNA-UK's General Election 2010 Hustings Guide also provides sample questions to pose to candidates, and looks at what a hustings can achieve to ensure that international issues are firmly on the agenda during the forthcoming general election campaign.

New education pack on the United Nations
‘UN Matters’ is an exciting new teaching pack produced by UNA-UK in collaboration with UNESCO. This resource pack for secondary level (KS 3) offers an accessible and comprehensive introduction to the United Nations with the aim of developing students’ understanding of the UN system and how it works for peace, development and human rights. Are you currently studying nuclear policy issues?
UNA-UK has an exciting opportunity for YPN members who are currently undertaking studies in nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament. The Foreign & Commonwealth Office is organising a short-notice event next week to canvass the views of students ahead of the May 2010 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference. The event will feature a panel debate with FCO Minister Ivan Lewis MP, UNA-UK Chair Lord Hannay of Chiswick and BASIC Executive Director Paul Ingram.
